Philips Avent vs Tommee Tippee: Which Bottle is Better?

If you are standing in the baby aisle (or scrolling Amazon at 3 AM) trying to decide between Philips Avent vs Tommee Tippee, you are not alone. These are probably the two biggest bottle brands out there.

We didn’t know which one to pick, so we did what most new parents do: we bought both.

Now that our daughter is 10 months old, we have used these bottles every single day. One of them is still in our kitchen, and the other one went in the bin.

Here is our honest breakdown of the battle between Philips Avent vs Tommee Tippee, and why there was a clear winner for our family.

The Quick Verdict

If you don’t have time to read the whole review, here is the answer: Buy the Philips Avent.

For us, the Avent Natural bottles were durable, easy to clean, and our baby took to them immediately. The Tommee Tippee bottles, while popular, were a nightmare to wash and didn’t last nearly as long.

Round 1: Cleaning the Philips Avent vs Tommee Tippee

This is where the battle was decided for me. As a dad, you spend a lot of time standing at the sink washing bottles. According to the NHS guidelines on sterilising, you need to clean every part thoroughly, so ease of cleaning is huge.

  • Philips Avent: These have a nice wide neck and a simple shape. You can get a bottle brush right in there easily. There are only a few parts (bottle, teat, ring, cap). It takes 10 seconds to wash.
  • Tommee Tippee: These have a curvier “waisted” shape. It looks nice, but it is annoying to clean. Milk residue gets stuck in the curves if you aren’t careful. Also, depending on which model you get, the anti-colic valves can be fiddly to take apart and reassemble at 2 AM.

Winner: Philips Avent.

Round 2: Durability of Philips Avent vs Tommee Tippee

Baby gear needs to survive being dropped, thrown, and washed 500 times.

  • Philips Avent: After months of use and sterilising, our Avent bottles still look clear and new. The plastic is high quality and doesn’t scratch easily.
  • Tommee Tippee: We found these started to look “cloudy” and worn out much faster. They just didn’t feel as solid as the Avent ones. When you are spending money on gear, you want it to last more than a few months.

Winner: Philips Avent.

Round 3: The Baby’s Opinion on Philips Avent vs Tommee Tippee

This is the most important part. You can buy the most expensive bottle in the world, but if your baby hates it, it is useless.

Our daughter loved the Avent. The teat shape (which claims to be “breast-like”) seemed to work for her, and she switched between breast and bottle without much fuss.

With the Tommee Tippee, she was fussier. Maybe it was the flow rate, or maybe just the feel, but she clearly preferred the Avent.

Final Thoughts on Philips Avent vs Tommee Tippee

Tommee Tippee is a massive brand for a reason—they are everywhere and they are often cheaper. But in our experience, the frustration of cleaning them and the lower durability wasn’t worth the small saving.

If you want a bottle that is easy to scrub, lasts forever, and (in our case) keeps the baby happy, go for the Philips Avent.
